Long horizontal tanks were installed in old barns to methanize pig manure. The advantages of this type of reactor soon became evident, leading to the development of heterogeneous methanisation. This approach enabled highly concentrated digestion processes, even with substrates containing higher nitrogen levels.\n\nThe technical and functional foundations of these large-scale static plants and the smaller modular BioBlox units are based on the same principles.
